The Mar Menor & the Costa Cálida
Translated literally, this area is known as the “Minor Sea”, so called because the coast forms a unique sea lagoon some fifteen miles long at this point. The calmness of the sea makes the Mar Menor a haven for enthusiasts of all types of water sports and, of course, the famous La Manga Golf Course is also to be found here. This is a quiet spot on the Mar Menor with a picturesque harbour and a beautiful sandy beach. It takes its name from being the preferred bathing area for the Moorish Royalty in bygone years (Alkazar being their name for a palace).
